Welcome/blog title explanation

Here it is. I have finally given in to one of the more significant internet trends of the past decade with my own meager contribution to the epic blog-o-sphere. Welcome.

This is a relatively new concept for me, as I imagine it is for some members my less-than-tech-saavy family, so bear with me as I try to do my best to keep everyone updated. On this most ordinary of Boxing Days I don't have much to write about. I expect that to change once I embark. There will be folly, and plenty of cultural misunderstanding, as the generic, dumbed down flavor of Spanish I took for ~7 years has been slowly evaporating out of my head.

In Spain, the expression "coger un taxi" means what it appears to mean - to catch a taxi. However, in Mexico, it means something slightly different. If you were invite a Mexican to "coger un taxi," you would basically invite them to attempt to have sexual relations with a taxi. Ouch.

Without the Fodor's Guide to Spain that my mother bought for me from Job Lot at the incredibly low price of $10, I would not have known that. My feeling is that this could only be the tip of the iceberg as far as my potential lingual fiascoes go...

Not much substance here, but mark your calendars - I leave January 13th. The fun will probably begin around the 16th. In the mean time, enjoy the lyrics to the delightful U2 B-side after which I named this blog. Please don't ever confuse it with the Backstreet Boys song by the same title.

Wey hey hey, baby hang on
Wey hey hey, baby hang on
Empty heart, beat tight as a drum
Said empty love, she'd shine like a song
Wey hey hey, baby hang on (to anything)

Our love shines like rain
In those spanish eyes
Spanish eyes

Wey hey hey, here she comes
She comes in colors
You know she gonna turn the daylight on
'cause I love the way you talk to me
And I love the way you walk on me
And I need you more
Oh, than you need me

Our love shines like rain
In those spanish eyes
Spanish eyes

I'll cross the world for green and gold
But it's those Spanish eyes
That get me home...home again

Wey hey hey, baby hang on
Wey hey hey, you know that
The night is young
Dazzled by lights that shine in your eyes
I'm standing in the shadows
And wait for the night
Forever in fever, forever in heat
You pick me up to put me out on the street

Wey hey hey, baby hang on, hang on
Wey hey hey, baby hang on, hang on
'cause I love the way you talk to me
And I love the way you're mean to me
And I need you
